Procedure

Mac OS X Version

Lithium Core has been tested with and is supported on Mac OS X 10.4.x and Mac OS X 10.5.x (Client and Server). Other version may be compatible however support is not available at this time.

Universal Binary

All libraries and binaries installed by the Lithium Core installer package (including bundled product dependencies) are universal binaries. Lithium Core has been tested on both PPC- (G4/G5) and Intel-based Macs.

Prerequisites

All required dependencies are installed by the Lithium Core Mac OS X Installer Package.

All dependencies, that are not installed in Mac OS X by default, are installed by the Lithium Core installer package. This includes PostgreSQL 8.x and other support libraries and applications.  Under normal circumstances, you should not need to manually install any of the following

The list below is provided as a reference only

Apache 1.3.x or 2.2.x

If you are installing Core on Mac OS X Client (non-Server), you MUST enable "Personal Web Sharing" through the Sharing tab in System Preferences.
If you are installing Core on Mac OS X Server , you MUST enable the "Web" service through the Server Admin application.

Net-SNMP 5.x

Net-SNMP is installed in Mac OS X by default.

Installed Components

The following components are installed by default by the Lithium Core installer packages. Check the installer package for options on excluding these components if required. Note that all components are required for Lithium to operate properly.

PHP (4.x or 5.x) with PostgreSQL Database Support

The Lithium Core installer package installs, by default, an updated PHP4 (Mac OS X 10.4) or PHP5 (Mac OS X 10.5) module with PostgreSQL support. Installation of this module can be disabled during the install if you already have a custom PHP module installed. PostgreSQL support is essential.

PostgreSQL 8.1

The Lithium Core installer package includes an installation of PostgreSQL 8.1. This can be disabled during the install if you already have PostgreSQL installed.
PostgreSQL MUST be configure to allow 'password' authentication, not 'ident same user' as is sometimes the default. If you are using the PostgreSQL install included with Lithium Core, this configuration has already been set.

Selected Perl modules from CPAN

The Lithium Core installer package will install selected Perl modules from the CPAN repository and attempt to configure CPAN. The modules that are installed are the basic necessities to use Lithium's Action and Service Monitoring scripts

Lithium Web PHP Files

The Lithium Core installer will install the Lithium Web PHP files in /Lithium/WebServer/Documents and create a sym-link from the Lithium Web files in /Lithium/WebServer/Documents to the /Library/WebServer/Documents/lithium directory. This will allow Lithium to be accessed via the http://servername/lithium URL.
